Easily Connect Anywhere with Aruba’s Self-Location Wireless Access Points

Want to stay in touch no matter where you are? Aruba’s self-locating wireless access points make it simple to stay connected! You won’t have to worry about configuring a complex network or finding a reliable connection. Thanks to Aruba’s cutting-edge technology, you can connect to any location quickly and easily with a few mouse clicks. You can now be productive, creative, and connected wherever you are!

Aruba has released the first self-locating access points to lay the groundwork for the precise indoor location. They want to make using outdoor GPS in indoor environments simple and commonplace.

Growth in Location-aware Services

The acceleration of digital modernization drives the development and growth of location-aware services such as turn-by-turn wayfinding, high-value asset tracking, retail customer engagement, and intelligent office initiatives. Despite this, organizations cannot deploy indoor locations as widely as they would like or provide users with a seamless user experience in indoor and outdoor environments due to the complexity, expense, and level of effort required by current solutions.

Today’s Indoor Location Services Limit the Widespread Adoption

The current generation of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi ranging technologies rely on relative distance calculations and manually mapped reference points. To map reference points, IT must conduct site surveys and manually mark reference points on site-specific maps. These maps are challenging to use and require costly professional services.

Virtual Bluetooth, whose accuracy is based on manually mapped reference points, has thus a limited potential impact. More recent solutions, such as ultra-wideband (UWB) two-way ranging techniques, can measure the relative distance down to the centimeter level, but they are too expensive and complex and are only suitable for specialized applications. The reliance of UWB on manually mapped reference points, like traditional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth methods, limits the accuracy of device measurements.

KEY BENEFITS

  • Automated AP positioning reduces IT workload by eliminating the need for time-consuming manual surveys and mapping.
  • Use APs as the foundation for precise indoor measurements to implement new location-aware services and improve existing ones widely.
  • Use Open Locate to scale indoor locations throughout the organization and broadcast measurements to any mobile device over the air.
  • Create seamless user experiences in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Incorporating indoor location measurements is another challenge. Because indoor measurements are frequently locked in local x-y coordinates, they cannot be used with commercially available applications such as Google Maps and Apple Maps.

Local coordinate-based applications necessitate more development work, causing new service launches to be delayed and costs to rise. To improve the accuracy and accessibility of indoor location services, an automated method for mapping absolute reference measurements using global latitude and longitude coordinates must be developed.

Aruba’s Approach

To address these issues and increase the accessibility of indoor location services, Aruba has unveiled the first self-locating access points, which lay the groundwork for the precise indoor location. We aim to make indoor GPS as straightforward and widely used as outdoor GPS. Using global latitude and longitude coordinates, fine time measurements, and intelligent software, our APs automatically and precisely pinpoint their exact locations.

Aruba Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E APs locate themselves automatically, fine-tune their measurements over time, self-heal when APs are moved or replaced and serve as absolute reference points for precise client location. In contrast, manual approaches rely upon on-site surveys and local map coordinates. Aruba’s Open Locate initiative aims to standardize AP reference location disclosure to client devices and network-based services. Because Aruba collaborated with mobile OS vendors, any application can access precise and dependable indoor locations.

Components of Location Services

Self-locating APs

Aruba Wi-Fi 6E access points can self-locate and collaborate with Wi-Fi 6 APs to create reference points that precisely pinpoint an indoor client’s location using embedded GPS receivers.

Intelligent Software

The accuracy of multi-dimensional measurements is improved over time by continuously updating absolute reference points and relative distance to account for changes. AP orchestration and management are included to enable location communication without affecting performance.

Open Locate

Open Locate aims to make it easier for mobile devices to find themselves and applications to support network analytics by standardizing how APs broadcast their locations over the air and through cloud-based APIs.

Partner Ecosystem

Major OS providers and device manufacturers like Google, Zebra, Tile, and Samsung collaborate with Aruba on Open Locate to provide new and improved location services.

APS as a Foundation for Indoor Location

Aruba Access Points (APs) provide a solid indoor location foundation that enables the widespread deployment of location-aware services. Our Wi-Fi 6/6E APs locate and transmit global latitude and longitude coordinates over the air for use by any mobile OS. Creating separate maps or applications for indoor and outdoor settings is unnecessary.

How it works

  • Location-aware Acceptable time measurement automatically locates Wi-Fi 6/6E APs indoors.
  • Wi-Fi 6E APs with built-in GPS use the universal latitude and longitude coordinates to anchor these relative locations.
  • Intelligent orchestration and management software self-heals and improves AP location measurements after moving or replacing APs.
  • APs broadcast their location over the air to clients that support the Open Locate protocol and publish it via the cloud API.
  • Clients can use APs as landmarks to locate themselves precisely.

To Conclude

Because of Aruba’s self-locating indoor APs, enterprises, and service providers can deliver location-aware applications more quickly, precisely, and at scale. IT teams can eliminate site-specific floorplans and manual surveys by automatically locating reference points. Whether using Wi-Fi, beacons, UWB, or other technologies, indoor location is based on absolute reference points, making it highly accurate.

Future value-added applications of indoor location services will take many new forms. Location-enabled workflows and analytics have the potential to improve network performance significantly. Use location-aware machine learning, for example, to detect and replace failing APs before users experience issues and optimize AP placement. Lines of business can roll out and improve applications without requiring customization. Users benefit from seamless indoor and outdoor experiences.
