Aruba Instant-on OverviewGet the Right Aruba Instant on Setup for Your Business

Aruba Instant On is a new family of switches and access points (APs) designed to meet small businesses’ current and future needs. The Aruba Instant On product line is designed for small business network environments; it is simple to set up and manage, secure, and reliable. Aruba Instant On deployments can be managed via a local web GUI, a cloud portal, or an iOS and Android mobile app. Small businesses today face numerous challenges to survive and remain competitive. They are constrained by limited resources, a lack of technical expertise, a limited budget, and the proliferation of devices and bandwidth-hungry network applications.

These businesses want to invest in cutting-edge networking solutions that are both high-performing and cost-effective. Based on Aruba’s long history in enterprise networking, the Instant On product family provides a dependable, fast-wired connection and secure Wi-Fi. Instant On APs has DHCP, NAT, firewall, PPPoE, and router features that allow them to be directly connected to an ISP modem. To meet the expanding coverage requirements of small businesses, this portfolio of specifically designed access points also supports Smart Mesh technology.

The switch portfolio is divided into two high-level models: 1930 (8, 24, and 48 port PoE, non-PoE SKUs) and 1960 (24, 48 PoE, and non-PoE SKUs, as well as a 12-port 10GBT aggregator) switches. These models meet small business needs for higher PoE power, support for Class 4 (30W) and Class 6 (60W) PoE, flexible network management, and easy installation.

Site Design

The turnkey, straightforward networking solution, Instant On, comprises one or more Instant On APs or Switches. At a single site, up to 25 Instant On Devices (APs and switches) can support up to 22 wired (VLAN) and eight wireless (SSID) networks. The Instant On portfolio includes a long list of features suitable for small businesses, such as Smart Mesh, DHCP, NAT support, LAG, RSTP, client blocking, and firewall rules.

The first device to connect to the ISP hardware could be an AP or a Switch. Instant On APs can handle PPPoE configuration and support VLANs when acting as a router. They can also function as a DHCP server, allocating IP addresses to wireless networks. Configure the first device at a site using either static IP via PPPoE or DHCP.

Site Management

Instant On APs and Switches support two simple remote network management options at your fingertips. You can manage your Aruba Instant On deployments using an iOS or Android-compatible mobile app or a cloud portal accessible via a web browser. Two users can manage and administer the same Instant On-site by delegating administrative rights to a different user. The AP and Switch software updates automatically to keep you up to date with new features and functionality.

To ensure consistency, administrators can schedule update times. The Instant On Mobile App supports various regional languages, including Simplified Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese, to ensure universal usability. Launching the mobile app determines the phone’s location and language. The app always uses this configuration. When the app launches the next time, it will set this new language as the default and save it if the phone’s location changes. The regional language of push notifications used for mobile app troubleshooting is the same.

Wi-Fi Security Recommendations

Aruba Instant On supports various security options for employee and visitor networks. Support the latest Wi-Fi Protected Access 3 and wireless authentication security standards, WPA2 and WPA3. An External Radius server provides enhanced security for the employee network. There is also the option of connecting to an open guest network, which does not require steps or authentication procedures. Although it simplifies the user experience, don’t recommend this.

LAN Security Recommendations

Aruba Instant On switches, as previously stated, support both employee and guest networks, as well as a variety of security options and time-of-day features. Network management supports Flow Control, Loop Protection, Flow Control, and 802.3x Storm Control. 802.1p and DSCP support four queues for efficient traffic mapping and Ingress Rate Limiting via 802.1Q.

Loop control and RSTP for fast convergence are available when a loop. Wired clients can use RADIUS per port with four pre-configured services or a private server.
